AA devoted Zimbabwean has stepped forward to honour one of the country’s most iconic musical legends, John Chibadura, in a deeply moving act of generosity and patriotism. A few weeks ago, heartbreaking images of Chibadura’s neglected and dilapidated grave circulated online, stirring emotion across the nation. Among those affected was journalist and activist Hopewell Chin’ono, who publicly offered to fund a new tombstone to restore dignity to the late musician’s final resting place.
But before the offer could materialize, a patriotic son of the soil, Tendai Mbofana, of Ngoda Granite/Tombstones, reached out to Chin’ono with a remarkable gesture of kindness. Tendai humbly said, “Daddy Hope, you have done a lot for our country. Allow us to also play our part in our own way.”
True to his word, Tendai and his team took it upon themselves to design and construct a beautiful, dignified tombstone for John Chibadura — completely free of charge. When the final monument was unveiled, it stood as a powerful symbol of respect, love, and remembrance for a man who brought so much joy through his music.
What makes this story even more inspiring is that Tendai refused to accept any payment, insisting that this was his personal way of saying “thank you” to Chibadura and of honouring a man whose music continues to echo in the hearts of millions of Zimbabweans.
