The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority has launched a nationwide campaign to identify and shut down unregistered tourism facilities, including Airbnbs and short-term rental accommodations.
This initiative forms part of the government’s strategy to regularize the tourism sector and ensure full compliance with national regulations. All operators have been issued registration notices, and those who fail to comply will face closure.
The campaign has already led to the shutdown of several facilities in cities including Masvingo, Gr Marondera, Bulawayo, Chinhoyi, Mutare, and Harare. Four unregistered operators in Harare were closed today.
The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority is also urging members of the public to report any unregistered facilities, encouraging collective efforts to build a safe and legally compliant tourism environment.
Officials believe the initiative will improve industry standards, strengthen compliance, and enhance Zimbabwe’s reputation as a premier travel destination.
