The world is mourning the loss of martial arts icon and Hollywood star Chuck Norris, who has died at the age of 86. His family confirmed his passing in a statement, describing it as a “sudden passing” and requesting privacy while revealing that he was surrounded by loved ones and at peace.
Born Carlos Ray Norris on March 10, 1940, in Ryan, Oklahoma, Norris rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most respected figures in martial arts history. He was a six-time undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate champion and went on to found the Chun Kuk Do system, as well as the United Fighting Arts Federation. His contributions to martial arts earned him a 10th-degree black belt recognition from Black Belt magazine.
Before his rise to fame, Norris served in the United States Air Force, where he began his martial arts training during a deployment in Korea. After returning home, he opened a chain of martial arts schools, teaching a number of high-profile students including Steve McQueen, Priscilla Presley, and Bob Barker.
Norris made his film debut in 1968 and gained international recognition after starring alongside Bruce Lee in Return of the Dragon (1972). He went on to headline a string of action films including Missing in Action, The Delta Force, and Sidekicks.
He later became a household name through the hit television series Walker, Texas Ranger, which debuted in 1993 and ran for several successful years, cementing his legacy in popular culture.
Beyond film and television, Norris became an internet sensation through the viral “Chuck Norris Facts,” later embracing the phenomenon by publishing The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book. He was also known for his involvement in political causes and his influence beyond entertainment.
Chuck Norris is survived by his five children. His legacy as a martial artist, actor, and cultural icon will continue to inspire generations around the world.
