The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has stepped up its nationwide fight against illicit substance trafficking, resulting in several high-profile arrests and the seizure of dangerous drugs worth tens of thousands of dollars.
In a press statement issued on February 16, 2026, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi reaffirmed the ZRP’s commitment to safeguarding communities by dismantling organized criminal networks involved in drug peddling.
Major Seizure in Plumtree
The most significant bust occurred in Plumtree on February 15, 2026, when detectives intercepted a Toyota Quantum vehicle during a targeted operation. Two suspects, Msawenkosi Ndlovu (49) and Vengai Chawa (41), were arrested after police discovered a massive consignment of illicit cough syrup in their possession.
Authorities recovered:
- 5,124 bottles of Broncleer
- 4,170 bottles of Astra Pain
The haul carries an estimated street value of US$80,000, marking one of the largest cough syrup seizures in recent months. Police believe the consignment was intended for distribution through underground drug networks targeting communities and youths.
Illegal Cultivation Raids
Simultaneously, law enforcement agencies intensified operations against illegal cannabis cultivation across several districts.
In Wedza, 28-year-old Emanuel Busemani was arrested at Plot 7 Investment Farm in Melfort for the unlawful cultivation of dagga.
Further arrests were made in Bubi on February 16, 2026, where Lacken Tshuma (55) and Owner Muleya (32) were apprehended at Inunwa Ranch for similar offenses.
100kg Dagga Seized in Beitbridge
The crackdown also extended to Beitbridge, where police raided a residence in the Garikai area of Dulibadzimu on February 13, 2026. Two suspects, Tinashe Mero Shoko (22) and Eliot Badza (33), were arrested after officers recovered 100 kilograms of dagga from the property.
Ongoing Operations
Commissioner Nyathi emphasized that the ZRP will continue conducting intelligence-driven operations to disrupt supply chains and protect vulnerable communities from the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.
The latest arrests signal a firm stance by authorities as Zimbabwe intensifies efforts to curb the growing threat of illicit substances and restore safety in communities nationwide.
