The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has recorded a major breakthrough in the country’s energy sector, achieving 41 consecutive days without load shedding. The milestone also includes a total of 61 days with minimal power outages, signaling a significant improvement in electricity generation and supply nationwide.
The announcement was made on January 31, 2026, by Dr. George Manyaya, the outgoing General Manager for Stakeholder Relations, Communication and Welfare at ZESA Holdings, during his farewell address. Dr. Manyaya described the development as a turning point for the power utility, crediting a combination of government-backed initiatives and internal teamwork for the progress.
Among the key drivers of the improved power supply are the ongoing rehabilitation works at Hwange Power Station and increased reliance on renewable energy sources. These efforts have strengthened generation capacity and stabilized supply, offering relief to households and businesses that have endured years of persistent outages.
Dr. Manyaya praised the unity and dedication of ZESA employees, emphasizing that the achievement reflects collective effort across the organization. He also acknowledged the support of key stakeholders, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in driving reforms and investments within the energy sector.
“The public now knows our true story. We are no longer afraid of scrutiny, for we have nothing to hide,” he said, highlighting what he described as a positive turnaround for the utility.
As he prepares to assume his new role as Chief Executive Officer of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, Dr. Manyaya encouraged ZESA staff to maintain the spirit of excellence and unity that has contributed to the recent success.
The milestone offers renewed hope for improved industrial productivity, economic stability, and better living conditions, as consistent electricity supply remains a critical pillar for national development.
