ormer Zimbabwean legislator Job Sikhala has reportedly been arrested in Pretoria, South Africa, after authorities allegedly discovered explosives in his vehicle. The 53-year-old politician is currently being held at the main police station in Pretoria, as investigations into the incident continue.
According to sources close to Sikhala, there are growing suspicions that the incident may have been a set-up. Associates allege that Zimbabwean intelligence operatives could have played a role in framing the outspoken opposition figure. One of his close allies told ZimLive:
“He got a call from people who introduced themselves as members of Joseph Kabila’s party from the Democratic Republic of Congo who wanted to assist his efforts to restore democracy in Zimbabwe.”
At this stage, South African authorities have not released an official statement confirming the charges or providing details about the alleged explosives. The matter remains under investigation, and more information is expected to be released as the case develops.
Sikhala, known for his vocal criticism of the Zimbabwean government and his long history of political activism, has faced numerous arrests in Zimbabwe in recent years. His detention in South Africa marks another dramatic twist in his ongoing struggle for political reform and human rights advocacy in the region.
