resident Emmerson Mnangagwa has departed Nairobi, Kenya, for Harare after participating in the 24th Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Heads of State and Government Summit.
The high-level gathering brought together leaders from across the region to discuss ways to strengthen economic integration, promote trade cooperation, and advance sustainable development among member states.
Focus of the COMESA Summit
The 24th COMESA Summit served as a platform for African leaders to deliberate on key issues affecting regional economies — including intra-African trade, industrialization, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment.
President Mnangagwa joined fellow Heads of State in emphasizing the importance of collaboration and innovation in accelerating Africa’s collective growth under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.
Diplomatic Engagements and Cooperation
During his stay in Nairobi, President Mnangagwa held bilateral discussions with several African leaders and regional representatives. Talks centered around expanding investment opportunities, enhancing energy and transport infrastructure, and promoting digital trade within COMESA member states.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, the President reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to “working closely with sister nations to unlock the continent’s full economic potential.”
Return to Harare
President Mnangagwa’s return marks the conclusion of a successful diplomatic mission that underscored Zimbabwe’s active role in regional development and integration. The outcomes of the summit are expected to influence policy directions on trade, infrastructure, and economic reforms within the COMESA bloc.
