Five people have died and thousands have been displaced after severe weather caused flooding, strong winds, and widespread destruction across the Western Cape.
Western Cape Local Government and Environmental Affairs MEC Anton Bredell confirmed the deaths as emergency teams continued responding to incidents across the province.
The City of Cape Town reported hundreds of weather-related emergencies after the storm system hit overnight.
Between 6am and 9:30am alone, emergency services received more than 950 calls linked to fallen trees, vehicle accidents, flooding, and power outages.
Authorities said flooding affected at least 26 informal settlements across Cape Town, damaging more than 10,000 structures and impacting over 41,000 people.
Humanitarian organisations have already started distributing meals and blankets while assessments continue.
Officials also identified around 6,000 people in urgent need of assistance.
Schools across the province were ordered to remain closed on Tuesday, while several major roads remained flooded and inaccessible.
