Zimbabwe’s Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Tino Machakaire, has distanced himself from allegations of impropriety in public procurement, stating that he has never benefited from government tenders.
Addressing a meeting in Bulawayo on Wednesday, Machakaire said he does not associate himself with individuals or practices linked to corrupt dealings in the awarding of public contracts.
He stated that he is not part of those who engage in wrongdoing and made it clear that he has never been awarded a public tender and does not wish to have one.
The minister emphasized that there are many other opportunities for economic growth outside of government tenders.
He said success should not be tied to access to state contracts and encouraged people to explore other legitimate business opportunities.
His remarks come at a time of continued public scrutiny over transparency and accountability in the awarding of government tenders in Zimbabwe.
Machakaire framed his comments as a broader stance on integrity and ethical conduct in both business and public service.
