The Harare Metropolitan Police carried out an early morning operation in the Central Business District, leading to the arrest of more than 100 street dwellers.
The operation forms part of a broader campaign aimed at restoring order, improving public safety, and addressing social challenges in the capital.
Authorities confirmed that those taken in include both adults and minors, with the children expected to be moved into registered care facilities for protection and support.
Officials say the crackdown was driven by growing concerns over drug abuse, worsening sanitary conditions, and rising petty crime within the CBD.
City leaders believe the growth of unregulated street colonies has become a serious public health and safety concern.
Beyond the arrests, authorities stressed that clearing the streets alone is not a long-term solution.
They are now calling for comprehensive detoxification programmes, rehabilitation centres, and stronger social support systems to address the root causes of homelessness and substance abuse.
