Zimbabwe is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Lance Corporal Tumelo Dube, a 33-year-old Presidential Guard soldier, who died together with his wife and two young children in a tragic road accident.
A solemn military funeral parade was held at the State House Presidential Barracks in Sauerstown, Bulawayo, where the Zimbabwe National Army paid tribute to the fallen soldier.
Dube lost his life alongside his wife, Antonate Sibonginkosi Mashava Dube, and their children, eight-year-old Itumele and one-year-old Lorisana, after their vehicle was involved in a horrific crash 10 kilometres past Shangani while travelling from Harare to Bulawayo.
While the parents died at the scene, the two children sadly later succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
During the funeral, Chief Mourner Tongai Hove described Dube as a disciplined, loyal, and distinguished soldier whose life was tragically cut short.
The tragedy has renewed national concern over Zimbabwe’s worsening road safety crisis, especially after a series of fatal accidents recorded during the Easter holidays.
Police statistics show that 30 people died and 104 were injured in 337 road accidents during the Easter period alone, sparking fresh calls for greater caution on the roads
