Healthcare professionals at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare have staged a protest demanding an urgent salary adjustment following rising fuel prices and the increasing cost of living.
Workers say their current transport allowance of ZiG500, approximately US$15, is no longer adequate to meet daily commuting costs. Many highlighted that a single day’s transport can now cost up to US$6, placing them under severe financial strain.
The protesting staff emphasized that the situation is affecting their ability to report for duty consistently, raising concerns about service delivery at one of the country’s major referral hospitals.
Authorities are yet to respond to the demands as pressure continues to mount from frontline healthcare workers.
