Former ZANU PF Secretary for Legal Affairs, Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana, has stated that President Emmerson Mnangagwa would be subject to the party’s constitution should he decide not to remain in office beyond 2028.
Mangwana made the remarks while discussing internal party processes and leadership structures within ZANU PF. According to him, the ruling party operates under its own constitution, which guides leadership decisions and succession matters.
He explained that if Mnangagwa chooses not to continue in office after 2028, the matter would ultimately be governed by the party’s constitutional framework. This means that any decision regarding leadership continuity or succession would have to follow the established rules and procedures outlined by the party.
The comments come amid ongoing discussions within political circles about Zimbabwe’s leadership future as the 2028 timeline approaches. Mnangagwa, who has led the country since 2017, remains a central figure within ZANU PF and national politics.
Mangwana emphasized that party structures and constitutional provisions are designed to ensure order and clarity in leadership transitions, highlighting the importance of respecting internal rules when addressing such significant decisions.
The discussion has sparked renewed debate among political observers and party supporters regarding what the future leadership of both ZANU PF and Zimbabwe may look like in the years ahead.
