Prominent businessman and socialite Wicknell Chivayo has once again captured national attention after pledging a staggering US$1 million cash reward to Zimbabwe’s national cricket team, the Chevrons, in recognition of their recent outstanding performances on the international stage.

In a social media post, Chivayo expressed immense pride in the team’s achievements, singling out their impressive victories against cricket powerhouses Australia and Sri Lanka. He described their qualification for the global top eight as a historic milestone worthy of both national celebration and substantial financial recognition.

According to Chivayo, the pledge is currently subject to approval by the “Principal” — a term he commonly uses to refer to President Emmerson Mnangagwa. However, he made it clear that, in his view, the reward is already earned. He stated that he considers himself indebted to the players and intends to release the funds immediately upon their return home once the necessary formalities are completed.

Beyond the financial promise, Chivayo also shared words of encouragement ahead of the team’s high-stakes clash against India. He urged the Chevrons to maintain their focus and momentum, emphasizing that the nation stands firmly behind them as they continue to compete against the world’s best.

The pledge has sparked widespread discussion among fans, with many praising the gesture as a powerful show of support for Zimbabwean sport. As the Chevrons continue their campaign on the global stage, the country watches with pride, hopeful that their inspiring run will continue.
