The South African Police Service (SAPS) has strongly condemned discriminatory and offensive remarks directed at one of its official spokespersons, describing the conduct as unacceptable and inconsistent with both the organisation’s values and the Constitution of South Africa.
In a statement, SAPS emphasized that its members, regardless of rank or role, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. The police service reaffirmed its commitment to upholding constitutional principles, including equality, human rights, and non-discrimination. Officials made it clear that attacks based on personal characteristics or identity undermine not only individuals but also the broader democratic values the country stands for.
SAPS noted that public discourse, particularly on social media platforms, must remain responsible and respectful. The organisation warned that discriminatory language and offensive conduct could have legal consequences, especially when it violates constitutional protections or existing legislation.
The police service further highlighted that spokespersons play a critical role in communicating accurate information to the public, particularly during sensitive investigations and national matters. Targeting officials performing their duties, SAPS said, detracts from constructive engagement and erodes trust between communities and law enforcement.
As investigations or monitoring continue regarding the remarks, SAPS has called on the public to reject discrimination in all forms and to support efforts aimed at fostering unity, professionalism, and accountability within society.
