South African music sensation Makhadzi has been discharged from hospital and will continue her recovery at home following a serious road accident that occurred late last year. The award-winning artist, born Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, confirmed the update on Monday, January 5, 2026, assuring fans that she is now out of immediate danger, although her recovery journey is far from over.
The accident happened on the morning of December 31, 2025, as Makhadzi was traveling from Limpopo to Johannesburg for a New Year’s Eve performance. Reports indicate that she was struck by a passing vehicle on the N1 outside Mokopane after stepping out of her car. She was rushed to a hospital in Polokwane, where she remained under close medical observation for several days.
In her first personal statement since the crash, Makhadzi expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support she received from fans around the world, especially her loyal supporters known as the “Khadzinators.” She revealed that her doctor has prescribed a 10-week recovery period at home, during which she will not be able to perform live on stage.
Describing herself as a fighter, the singer said she plans to channel her energy into writing new music from her home studio while she heals. She also shared her relief that her voice was not damaged in the accident, calling the experience a “second chance to breathe.”
Makhadzi’s management team confirmed that her family will be caring for her during her recovery. Messages of support have continued to pour in from across the entertainment industry and beyond, including from political leaders and institutions such as the City of Tshwane, as the star begins her two-month break from public appearances.
