Highlanders Football Club has acknowledged an offer from benefactor Wicknell Chivayo to fully cover the salary and benefits of former Zimbabwe international Benjani Mwaruwari, should he be appointed as the club’s next head coach.
Chivayo — who had previously pledged a US $1 million sponsorship package to Highlanders — revealed he personally met with Mwaruwari and is willing to underwrite all contractual obligations for the ex-Warriors captain, including salary, benefits, and a brand-new vehicle of his choice, if Bosso agree to advance him through their formal hiring process.
In a public statement, Chivayo described the coach’s conditions as “fair and reasonable” for someone of Mwaruwari’s stature, and said the offer is separate from his existing financial commitment to the club’s 2026 season preparations.
As things stand, Highlanders have confirmed they are still without a head coach — following the departure of Dutchman Pieter De Jongh whose contract expires at the end of December.
The club’s leadership has yet to announce a decision, but the development has sparked excitement among supporters — who hope the move could signal the return of a local legend to the Highlanders’ dugout.
